Roy Bonisteel Tribute Garden – Unveiled Saturday November 7th, 2015

The Roy Bonisteel Tribute Garden was unveiled last weekend on Saturday November 7th before a large crowd of supporters and local residents. Angela Smylie started this initiative 2 years ago with the help of Roy’s daughter, Lesley, to create a garden in his honor after his passing in August 2013. I was commissioned to create a life size bronze sculpture of Roy in one of his typical poses reading a book that would be placed on an iron bench. After the many years of hard work and the generous help of many financial donors, the garden was finally completed. This tribute garden is located in Trenton Ontario, Canada, in the Quinte West area where Roy spent most of his life, situated behind the new library and adjacent to the recently built Trenton Port Marina. This will be the first public bronze sculpture in Trenton. Roy Bonisteel was acknowledged as a successful Canadian journalist who hosted the CBC documentary show called Man Alive for 22 years. He was the recipient of the Governor General’s Order of Canada and was also a Citizen Court Judge. The landscaping and design was carried out by Modern Earthscapes.
